Burda 2/2011 – preview

The preview is available on the Russian site and this could be the issue that makes me try to draft a pattern because the only one I’m interested in is this one:
which, as far as I can see, only involves rotating the back darts of a pencil skirt to the center back seam. And then inserting a circle ruffle with self-fabric facing (so it doesn’t have to be hemmed) in the vent after hemming the skirt. The radius of the ruffle should be the length of the vent opening. Otherwise, there are a lots of basics and sack-like dresses in the issue, and way too many shorts for February.

oh you’re so right – that would be easy to do! I’m a total idiot at pattern drafting, but even I could do that. My neighbour taught me how to rotate darts – for this one I’d just take a regular pencil skirt pattern with a CB seam and the usual darts at the waistline, and with a pair of scissor cut a line from the CB edge up to the point of the existing dart. Then pinch/fold that existing dart closed. The triangle that opens up at your cut is the new dart.
Does that make any sense?
I bet this would have a great curve underneath your bum that’d be really flattering, too!

Yup Melissa, that’s exactly how I was thinking of rotating the dart. And I have the shape of the ruffle in my mind already. Now I just need time for this and the other gazillion projects on my mental to-do list!

Merci Barbara! Oui, il est sur ma (kilométrique) liste! Je voudrais juste voir la forme de l’insert dans la fente, meme si j’ai deja ma petite idee de comment il est fait (un tarte a laquelle on a enleve une part).
