Happening now in the 4th dimension

July 1, 2010

I always find it surprising that everything going on on the african continent seems to happen in a parallel world. I mean, how much do you know about african literature, african music, african fashion, african politics. Can you name one african author, singer, designer or president, let alone talk about regional differences and cultural diversity? I know I’m not objective but still, somehow it makes me sad…

Exceptionally, all eyes have been on Africa in the last few weeks, because of the Soccer World Cup taking place in South Africa. However, there’s more going on there than some men running after a soccer ball (I’m not objective here either, because my homeland is now out of the tournament 😦 Now I wish Ghana wins… or maybe Argentina):  it’s also Africa fashion week! Look at this (and those matching shoes!):

Mmmm, well, since this reader (from an Irish Catholic background) has a BA in Swahili and can answer all of your questions except the designer, maybe things among your readers are not quite as bleak as you might think….

It does flatters and makes me happy that such an exceptional reader would stumble upon my blog, though this post was just about that fact: that you are the exception. And that if most of my readers had the same knowledge as you, than I would probably be addressing a minority. Don’t you agree?
