Babynomade-like blanket

May 27, 2010

Like I said before, my sister is expecting her second-born in October. But since she’ll be visiting next weekend, I decided to make an early gift for the unborn, since 1) I don’t know how fast I’ll be visiting after she’s given birth, 2) I’m pretty sure we won’t be seeing each other until then and 3) I’d like her to be able to use this from birth on, even in the hospital if she likes. I made her a babynomade-like blanket (pattern is from Kallou):

The closures are still missing. I’ll be looking for a matching color this week and possibly complete it when she’s here. Here’s how you can use it:

Brilliant, isn’t it? I made a size 1, which is supposed to fit 0-4 month old babies. The pattern is also available for premature babies and in size 2 for 4-9 months (doesn’t make much sens to me as they start wanting to roll over and move around at 4 months). I used a double-face fleece, which is one of the very first fabric I bought, at the time without a particular project in mind, just because I loved the color combination. I sewed it with the green outside to keep in kind of neutral because the gender of the baby is unknown and I like the violet inside because it’s said to remind newborns of the womb (heard from more than one midwife). It’s a fast an easy project, especially if you have bias foot (I don’t but I wish I did). It can be made up with two fabrics with the bias like I did, or without the bias, which wouldn’t be as fast but would make it reversible! Kallou has recently published a book too, with tons of other cute and clever projects, I’m sure. I’ll throw a look into it next time I travel to or through France…

That’s a great design for a newborn, and a great gift idea. It’s much cooler than the standard receiving blanket. I like the colors you chose.
